Fall Semester (1/2 credit):

World History & World Geography 1 - Chapters 1-18

Spring Semester (1/2 credit):

World History & World Geography 2 - Chapters 19-36

Textbooks:

- World History: Patterns of Interaction (McDougal Littell Inc.)
- World Geography (McDougal Littell Inc.)

Grading Scale:

A = 90 - 100%   B = 80 - 89%   C = 70 - 79%   *D = 60 – 69%    F = 59% and below

* A “D” (60 - 69%) is a failing grade for World History & World Geography 1-2, which means the student will have to retake the class in order to earn a credit.  Also, if a student does earn a “D” (60 – 69%), it can be used to receive credit as an elective – but the student will still have to retake World History & World Geography 1 or 2 at a later time before they can graduate.

There are 2 quarter grades per semester.  A quarter equals 9 weeks.  A quarter grade will consist of the total points earned for tests, quizzes, assignments (in-class and homework), and citizenship.  The tests, quizzes, assignments and citizenship, will be given a point-score and that score will be recorded in the teacher’s grade book.

The score in the grade book is calculated by taking the total points earned by the student and dividing those points by the total points possible in the quarter. This will result in a percentile score.  (NOTE:  Not all work is graded.)

The following percentiles indicate the value (or weight) given to each type of category or assignment:  tests and quizzes - 40%; in-class assignments - 30%; homework - 20%; and citizenship - 10%.

The 1st and 2nd quarters for the first semester are combined to equal the final semester grade.  Of course, the same will be done for the 3rd and 4th quarters for the 2nd semester.  The final semester grades will consist of the cumulative percentile score for the specific semester and the percentile score from the associated semester Final Exam.  Therefore, your semester percentile grade, which has a value of 80%, is added to the Final Exam score which has a value of 20%.  The two percentages combined equal your overall semester grade, which is also your credit grade.

Homework:

Assignments for the week are written on the board at the front of the classroom.

-  unless excused, late assignments will not be accepted.

-  it is your responsibility to see me for any makeup work.

-  you must notify me the day before you are leaving for an activity or excused absence, so that you can receive full credit for an assignment that was done in class or assigned as homework, while you were gone.

Bell Work:

To be completed within the first 5 minutes of class time.  This work will be checked practically everyday for 5 points a day.  Once you have completed 10 days worth (which could mean 50 points), then your bell work will be turned in so that you can receive points for the "bell work" that you completed correctly.

Citizenship:

Learning now how to be a good citizen in society is critical.  Therefore, you will receive a "Citizenship Score" on a weekly basis.  Go to the following website to get more details concerning the scoring method:
